About Santa Monica Residents Directory

No single book now lists everyone who lives in Santa Monica. Useful residents-directory listings are spread across the Los Angeles County Assessor, the county recorder, California election services, Santa Monica offices, and Santa Monica Public Library. A name, street, or older address may lead to a parcel record, a restricted election source, or a digitized directory volume. The purpose here is to connect those separate custodians and collections without presenting any of them as one complete household roll.

Why This Reference Exists

Printed Santa Monica directories became less common, but their source records did not disappear. Ownership information is divided between the Los Angeles County Assessor and Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, while voter access follows California purpose limits. Historical volumes are held through Santa Monica Public Library's Sharla P. Boehm Collection and other repositories. Municipal records have their own path through the Santa Monica City Clerk and Records Request Center.

The result is a trail rather than a single database. County records, city requests, court files, vital-record applications, and library collections answer different questions and use different access rules. This reference gathers the relevant office names, search routes, coverage notes, and official links for Santa Monica so a researcher can start with the right custodian.

What the Directory Covers

  • Different search angles: the Santa Monica street directory for address-keyed research, the Directory Book for historical volumes, and the resident lookup for one-person verification
  • Named custodians: the Los Angeles County Assessor, RR/CC recorder and County Clerk, Superior Court, California vital-records offices, Santa Monica City Clerk, and Santa Monica Public Library
  • Practical methods: moving from a street address to an AIN, reading a directory entry, and pairing a current clue with an older collection
  • Access boundaries: the California Public Records Act, voter-purpose limits, confidential-address programs, and the request route for records that are not online

What This Reference Cannot Do

This is a privately operated reference, not a Santa Monica office, Los Angeles County department, California agency, court, or library. The limits are material:

  • We cannot confirm whether a specific person currently lives in Santa Monica
  • We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
  • We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
  • We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
  • We cannot promise that every coverage year, link, or office detail here is current at this moment

Only the originating custodian can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Use public information lawfully and never use a result to stalk, harass, intimidate, or harm anyone; nothing here is for an FCRA-regulated decision.
